Ilyssa Saenz, known simply as “Ilyssa” and formerly, Escandalo TV’s “La Doble De Selena,” was born August 1, 1990. She is an American singer and Tejano recording artist born in Laredo Texas, raised in Hebbronville Tx, but currently residing in San Antonio Tx.
Ilyssa became interested in singing when she attended a Selena concert at the tender age of three. Her parents supported her efforts by allowing her to perform at local fiestas and fairs.
Ilyssa’s talent became obvious when at age 12, she was selected to perform in San Antonio as a finalist in the Mariachi Vargas de Technotitlan Competition. She went on to perform in the International Hispanic Institute of Culture contest where she was named the Vocal Soloist of the Year. This earned her an appearance on international television on "Sabado Gigante" in Miami, Florida. That same year Ilyssa went on to win first place in the vocal division of the Tejano Academy of Fine Arts.
In 2010, Ilyssa discovered the Telefutura television program, Escandalo TV, was honoring the memory of Selena on the 15th anniversary of her death by sponsoring a contest in search of a Selena lookalike. Ilyssa decided to participate in the contest, “La Doble De Selena,” in Miami. She was named “La Doble De Selena,” after competing in the finale of the contest before the largest international television audience ever recorded by the network.
Soon after, Ilyssa was signed by Abraham Quintanilla as a new recording artist for Q Productions. Her debut single, “Te Dejo Un Panuelo,” premiered on Escandalo TV in Miami. Ilyssa then appeared at the 2010 Tejano Music Awards in San Antonio where she performed her second single “Te Amo,” written and produced by A.B.Quintanilla. Ilyssa was promoting the release of her first CD, “Estoy Contigo” which features a variety of songs including “Estoy Contigo” which was written by Abraham Quintanilla.
